A newly introduced bill in the Lone Star State would name the ISPSC as the code municipalities may adopt.

If House Bill 2858 passes, municipalities would be able to adopt the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, written by the International Code Council and the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals. They would be directed to choose the most recent version, with the option of adopting future amendments as newer editions come out.

Introduced earlier this month, the legislation comes with pool-industry backing: It was authored by swimming pool and spa builder Steve Toth, who also serves in the Texas State House Representative. The bill also is endorsed by the Texas Pool and Spa Coalition (TPSC).

It has been assigned to the Urban Affairs Committee.
