Stationary wave systems now have ASTM International standards.

The new standard includes manufacturing guidelines on structural supports, runout areas, pump, filtration and disinfection mechanisms.

A subcommittee of water-related amusement ride manufacturers took three years to develop F3133-16. Full title: Practice for the Classification, Design, Manufacture, Construction, and Operation of Standing Wave Systems. It defines wave machines as “a system that delivers a constantly flowing sheet of water nominally up to 24 in. thick traveling over a form allowing for patron interaction with a perpetual wave.”

Standing wave attractions are rapidly becoming commonplace at waterparks at cruise ships worldwide.
