The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals — along with its partners, the National Recreation and Park Association, American Red Cross and World Waterpark Association — is bringing together aquatics professionals from around the country to help reinforce the importance of safe swimming as part of National Water Safety Month in May. Myriad tools, including tip sheets, swimming rules, videos and posters, are available on its website, NationalWaterSafetyMonth.org. “The safe use of swimming pools, hot tubs and other recreational water facilities is a priority for everyone,” APSP President Bill Weber said. “National Water Safety Month serves to focus on the importance of water safety in all types of swimming environments. We encourage organizations nationwide to join us.” National groups such as the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, National Swimming Pool Foundation, USA Swimming Foundation and International Code Council also have pledged to encourage their members to get involved. The Consumer Product Safety Commission, with its Pool Safely campaign and “Simple Steps Save Lives” program offers materials to consumers and organizations to help raise awareness for proper drain cover use, safe swimming, adult supervision and swim lessons.
